The “Alexander technique” is a way of observing how we use our bodies, and finding ways of moving and reacting with less tension. By giving ourselves simple, practical instructions, we can teach ourselves more comfortable habits, and make life easier for ourselves, a little bit at a time.
I started taking Alexander lessons in 2010, when I was studying cello. I often had pain in my shoulder, and wanted to prevent this from becoming an injury. These lessons were a weekly oasis of peace, and I kept wanting more. Now, many years later, I am an Alexander teacher, and excited to share this exploration with others.
Over the years, this method has given me more freedom and ease in playing and in being, made me feel more comfortable in my body, and shown me how to simply be nicer to myself.
If you’re curious and would like to book a lesson, send me an email at pistoriusw@gmail.com.
I teach at my home in Amsterdam, de Pijp.
This page gives some good objective information about what Alexander technique is, and what it can be good for. But in the end, it’s just something you have to experience for yourself. If you’d like to do just that, send me a message and we can make a date.
